fitUnited Pittsburgh is an exciting new initiative launched by The United Way of Allegheny County to improve the health of our children by mobilizing and motivating our community.
We can do this with your help, by providing caring adults with knowledge and tools to support healthy kids, encouraging healthy eating at youth-serving organizations, increasing awareness of how to choose and access healthy foods, and increasing physical activity.
We are delighted to share a video produced by our Partners the Pittsburgh Pirates to help us spread this important message across our community. We have two key objectives; to increase physical activity levels and improve nutrition in children from birth to age 12.
We are doing this by working with a growing number of organizations across Allegheny County. We ask of our Partners that they:
- Learn about best practices
- Volunteer with community agencies serving children ages 0-12
- Share and join in collaborative efforts with other partners
- Advocate for a healthier workplace
As the Pirates say “it’s easier than you think”. Won’t you join us and help us make Allegheny County a healthier place for our children? Become a Partner today; click here

Serving as a convener of people, programs and research, the foundation for fitUnited is evidence-based research and best practices in health, nutrition and fitness. We draw on both proven and promising programs at a national and regional level, and share these with the community through a series of special events and our website.
Together we can have an impact. Our partners
include Corporations, Faith-Based organizations, Youth-Serving organizations, Healthcare providers and Government agencies, all committed to one common goal, to improve the health of our community’s children.
